The BEST Black Bean Burger Recipe!!

In Nutrition, Recipes by Coach SteveLeave a Comment

My partner and I decided to give up meat for Lent this year. Last year we did away with gluten for the 40 days and I can honestly say that going vegetarian was harder than gluten-free! Once good thing that has come out of it however, is some really great meat-free recopies like this Black Bean Burger. We have tried to make black bean burgers and loafs before but THIS is the best one we’ve ever had. Check it out and let me know what you think in the comments below!

Ingredients:
1 (15 ounce) can no-salt-added black beans, rinsed and drained
1 egg
1/2 yellow onion, chopped
1 cup whole wheat bread crumbs
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or granules
Salt and pepper to taste
Hot sauce to taste (I used Sriracha!)
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive or canola oil

Procedure:

Put beans in a large bowl and mash well with a fork. Add egg, yellow onion, bread crumbs, oregano, basil, garlic powder, salt, pepper and hot sauce. Mix well to combine then shape into 6 patties.

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Arrange patties in a single layer (working in batches, if needed) and cook, flipping once, until golden brown on both sides and cooked through, about 10 minutes total. Serve on whole wheat buns, wheat english muffin, wheat wrap or chop and serve on salad.

Calories: 290 per serving!
